The 17th International Sugar and Ethanol Conference, to be held on November 6 and 7, is one of the major events in the global sugar and ethanol schedule. The focus will remain on rendering value to market content, spreading knowledge of new technologies and public policies, as well as encouraging the networking between participants.

In the previous edition, the event was attended by more than 750 people from 30 countries, as well as 60 speakers who discussed for more than 15 hours manners of overcoming the challenges and leveraging the opportunities offered by Brazilian and international market.

Arnaldo Jardim State Secretary of Agriculture Livestock and Food Supply , State of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Arnaldo Jardim was born in Altinópolis, city in the Brazilian State of São Paulo. He is a civil engineer at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP) and began his political life as a student leader, when he was director of the Central Directory of Students (DCE) of USP and the State Union of Students, at the time of the struggles for democracy. He served four terms as a state deputy and was bench leader of PMDB’s (Party of the Brazilian Democratic Movement) at the São Paulo Legislative Assembly. Elected for the first time in 1985, he was the draftsman of the State Constitution and the amendment that ended parliamentary immunity for common crimes. Jardim was State Secretary of Housing between 2002 and 2004. He was the author of the State Policy to Support Cooperativism, the State Solid Waste Policy, the Adolescents Health Program, the Cooperative Support Law, and coordinated the parliamentary fronts of housing, cooperativism and clean energy. He was the first vice-leader of the PPS’s (Popular Socialist Party) bench in the Federal Chamber. Head of the Mines and Energy Commission and President of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of National Infrastructure and the Parliamentary Front for the Valorization of the Sugar and Energy Sector (Ethanol Front); Member of the Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development and Coordinator of the Working Group on Solid Waste of the National Congress Parliamentary Front. He was Rapporteur of the National Policy on Solid Waste (PNRS). He is draftsman of the Environmental Services Payment Act (PSA). In the last five years, he has recognized in the publications "100 Heads of the National Congress", elaborated by the Inter-Union Department of Parliamentary Advice (Diap), and by votes made by the Brazilian web portal Congress in Focus, as one of the best parliamentarians of the Federal Chamber. Currently, Arnaldo Jardim is Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, federal deputy (licensee) in third term (2007/2018) and presided over CONSEAGRI - National Council of Secretaries of Agriculture (2015/2016).

Elizabeth M.M.Q. Farina is the President and CEO of UNICA, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association, since December 2012. Prior to her current position she was full professor of Economics at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She chaired the Department of Economics from 2002 to 2004 and from 2010 to 2012. She was the president of the Brazilian Competition Council (Cade) from 2004 to 2008. For more than 10 years Dr. Farina was the vice chair of the agribusiness program at the University of Sao Paulo, PENSA. She earned a PhD in economics from the University of Sao Paulo in 1983 and the habilitation title since 1996. She reached the fullprofessorship in 2001. Dr. Farina worked as a consultant in Brazil and other Latin America countries and as economic expert in food and agribusiness strategies and antitrust litigation and mergers and acquisition analysis. Farina published eight books, 14 book chapters, and more than 20 papers in national and international journals.

Dr. Nastari holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics, from Iowa State University. Phi Kappa Phi (1983), Gamma Sigma Delta (1983). Was Professor of Economics at FGV – The Getúlio Vargas Foundation, in São Paulo, in undergraduate and graduate level courses (MBA, Masters and Doctoral programs) from 1984 to 2001. Member of PAPSAC, the Private and Public, Scientific, Academic and Consumer Food Policy Group, at Harvard University, in Boston, since 2012. Professor at the MBA in Agribusiness Joint Programme established between ESPM in São Paulo and Université de Nantes, France, since 2015. Former Executive Director and President of the Board of the Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineers (AEA), from 2000 to 2002, during the 1980s he helped the design of ethanol specifications which enabled the use of ethanol in fuel injected engines. He has served as member of the Technical Committees of Brazil’s Interministerial Council on Sugar and Alcohol, National Energy Commission, and Commission for Reexam of the Energy Matrix. He has assisted the Brazilian government in Energy Planning (1984-86 and 1991-93), industry deregulation (1997-1999), trade negotiations (1991-2004), and trade disputes. Representative of the Civil Society Specialist in Energy at the National Council on Energy Policy, at the Federal Government of Brazil, designated for the period of 2016 to 2018. Reinaldo Azambuja Silva Governor of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul,Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

Reinaldo Azambuja, 54 years old, an agriculturist from Campo Grande (MS), is governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, elected by the PSDB. He was mayor of Maracaju, city to 157 km of the Capital, Campo Grande, by two mandates (1997-2004). During the period in which he was mayor, he also presided over the Association of Municipalities of Mato Grosso do Sul (Assomasul). He was elected state deputy (2007-2011), federal deputy (2011-2014) and governor (2015-2018). As mayor of Maracaju, he led the municipality to the top place in the agricultural ranking to the position of largest grain producer, making the region the 5th state economy. In the Legislative Assembly of the State, he worked in the formation of the Parliamentary Front of the Agribusiness and led the bench of the PSDB. In the Federal Chamber, he held a discussion on the deficiencies of the agricultural policy and defended the revision of the federative pact. Reinaldo Azambuja took control the State Government as Brazil plunged into the biggest economic and political crisis in the country's history. It carried out two administrative reforms and balanced the accounts of Mato Grosso do Sul, keeping the state at the top of the statistics of investments, economic growth and Social development. Under his management, the State also won the first position in the Transparency Ranking and went from the 9th to the 5th position in the Brazilian Competitiveness Ranking.

Mr. Renato Pontes Cunha President, SINDAÇUCAR-PE, Pernambuco, Brazil.

Renato Augusto Pontes Cunha, was born in Recife, Pernambuco, on March 10, 1958, father of two daughters, graduated in Law by UFPE, in 1981, and post-graduated in Financial Administration by FESP – University of the State of Pernambuco. He also has MBA degree in Marketing by FGV/UNICAP. He performed executive positions in sugar and alcohol companies of the region, as Antonio Farias Group and Armando Monteiro Group. For two (2) years, from 1985 to 1987, he worked as Manager of Lloyds Bank PLC – Recife, having implemented the agribusiness department in the institution in Pernambuco, after three months training in the Bank’s general management in São Paulo. In 1999, he was appointed for the position of Director of the Union of Sugar and Alcohol Industries of the State of Pernambuco - SINDAÇÚCAR, and on June 12, 2000, he undertook the position of President of the entity. He took part in several travels abroad for studies and businesses, as for instance: Portugal, England, Germany and France, in Europe, as well as, Venezuela, Mexico and USA, in Americas. In the USA, upon invitation of the American Government, he took part for two weeks in 2005 of training in the scope of the Cochran Program of FAS-USDA. In the years 2003, 2004 and 2005, he received from Procana Group / JornalCana (sugarcane newspaper) the title of “Leader of the Year Master Cana”, result of survey in mills and distilleries of the Northeast region. He is effective member of the Sectorial Chamber of Sugar and Alcohol of the Federal Government and representative of SINDAÇÚCAR with the Federation of Industries of the State of Pernambuco – FIEPE.

Ricardo Martins Junqueira CEO,Diana Bioenergia Avanhandava S/A, Avanhandava, Brazil.

Ricardo Junqueira took over the management of Diana Bioenergia 7 years ago and is currently the CEO of the company. During his management, the company increased its milling capacity from 800 to 1.650 tons. Result of a modern and transparent administration, based on sustainability that reflects on the development of the city and region through socio-environmental projects. Graduated in Civil Engineering from Mackenzie-SP with a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration from FGV-SP, Ricardo found his real vocation by leading Diana Bioenergia. In 2015 he saw the company receive the MasterCana Performance Prize in the agroindustrial management category (MasterCana Desempenho em Gestão Agroindustrial), which recognizes the best sugar-ethanol mill administration in the mid-south region of Brazil, and last year, Diana Bioenergia was awarded the MasterCana Performance Prize (MasterCana Desempenho) in the strategy and management category – a proof that the work developed by the whole team is on the right way.

After this date, retention will rise to 90% to cover committed costs. No refunds will be made for cancellation requests received after October 31, 2017.
